The Foundation of Sustainability
The ongoing global issues have halted human lives. The consequences that have been arising for years as the impacts of global warming and climate change have now become the major concern. To combat the climate crisis and prevent the loss of lives along with the resources available in this earth, awareness and consciousness play a vital for a change. The very foremost thing is that if people (including from a child to an old man) are known to what they are doing, what is happening on this earth and what are their roles to maintain the systems on this earth then sustainability will no sooner change into availability. Similarly, when it comes about sustainability, social equity plays a vital role. Environment is not just “mine or yours” responsibility but every single person has his/her own contributions to it. So there must be equal involvements while proceeding towards sustainable development without any bias.
Next Poverty, another major obstacle, if not tackle in time then sustainability is no more an achievement. To reduce poverty, green jobs should be enhanced from local level where people from every ethics group along with the laymen will get an opportunity to realize the importance of sustainable development. Their direct involvements will also help to foster the proper utilization of resources and implement the alternative technologies to reduce the impacts of Green House Gases Effects in the atmosphere. This will obviously bring a revolution in green economy. While talking about climate change and global warming, low carbon mobility is another precursor to reduce the impacts and consequences. Youth from the civil society can be easily motivated for this technique as these days youth are more attracted towards advanced technology and transportation system. Besides Poverty reduction, Green jobs, Green economy and Sustainable development for human benefits, it is also important to divert youth’s concern towards the adaptation and mitigation measures for other living creatures. As all the human activities have direct or indirect impacts on the systems of the earth, it will probably affect other living creatures. For example, melting of ice destroying the habitats of polar bears, oil spills affecting the marine lives, loss of biodiversity due to floods, landslides, tsunami, etc.
However, the foundation of sustainability can be formed only when consciousness arises from each and every individual with social equity, when green economy blooms from green jobs and alleviates poverty, when renewable energy merge with low carbon mobility and when climate change changes with adaptation of each and every community.
